“The Golden Albatross” Book — End of Chapter Resources: Chapter 5

Chapter Five Refresh

Welcome to the “End of Chapter Resources Page” for Chapter Five of The Golden Albatross book. As a refresher, the fifth chapter was mostly about valid and invalid reasons for leaving a pensionable job. I also provided some tips on how to successfully depart your job if you decide to leave your current one. Chapter Five also contained several major caveats, too include the need to read several more chapters of the book, before making your Golden Albatross decision.

Civilian Job Transition Resources

In Chapter Five, I promised to link resources connected to transitioning from one job to another. That said, this chapter’s resources won’t make a lot of sense without taking into account last chapter’s resources page. So, if you skipped Chapter Four’s “End of Chapter Resources” page, go back and take a look now. I say that because as you can see from below, additional resources are thin for Chapter Five.

However, that’s not to say the resources aren’t important. The first two civilian links below are to books that could literally change your life. In fact, I consider Design Your Life the definitive guide to changing careers. Oddly enough, one of the military transition seminars I attended gave this book out for free to everyone attending. That’s how pivotal they believed it is.

I included Your Money or Life for anyone who has yet to make the Golden Albatross decision. Consider it as a counterpart to my book. Finally, The Balance website has an entire guide to quitting a job. I like The Balance because the articles are short, to the point, and embedded with useful links if you want to delve further into a topic.

Military Transition Resources

For the U.S. military members in the audience, I linked to the military’s current Transition Assistance Program’s website. There you will find the latest requirements for the class. I also linked to Doug Nordman’s The Military Guide blog. Doug was the first Financial Independence (FI) blogger to concentrate purely on the military. He’s written a lot of articles about transitioning from the military before earning a pension. He’s also written an entire book on the subject. Finally, The Military Times has produced an online survival guide for military members either transitioning or retiring from Active Duty. Definitely worth a peruse if that’s you.
